In an effort to offer products that are worth its cost but can still assure you quality performance and user facility, Apple has introduced its new operating system, Mac OS X 10.5 which has features such as efficient file recovery, effective parental controls, and a host of helpful smaller features. With its excellent and user-friendly interface, Mac OS X, also dubbed as Leopard can be noted for its fast and stable performance as well as effective file management features - allowing users to experience faster performance - provided your hardware has enough memory.
The centerpiece feature of the Leopard OS is its high technology backup system which literally allows the user to turn back the computer in time by helping locate accidentally deleted files as well as address book entries, photos and other products. By simply clicking the “Time Machine” icon, a flowing star field drops off the desktop that shows a sequence of windows that progresses back to the time you installed the operating system. For example, you can incidentally deleted an important paragraph in a document, you can simply click on the timeline and go back to the original document and copy from it the same lost paragraph and paste it on the active document.
This same document recovery feature allows you to reconstruct your Mac using a backup whenever you experience a main hard drive failure. This “Time Machine Backup to Restore” feature is installed into the Mac OS X using the same conventional incremental backup system but with a more user friendly and efficient interface laden with pleasing graphics and animations. Plus, you can actually configure your restore feature to specify the location where you want to keep your backups. Users can also incorporate its document recovery features to cover other computer software applications.
Other important feature of the newest Mac OS X is its “Parental Controls” which is now considered one of the most effective child-control technologies which allows parents to easily program time limits on the amount of time your child spends using the computer such as when there is a need to adjust time limits separately for weekdays and weekends. The same feature allows parents to identify that websites that are blocked as well as persons with which you child can send e-mails or instant messages. “Parental Controls” uses a username and password feature and can also restrict the type of software applications that your child can actually use or the website that he can access regardless of internet browser they use. Aside from simply blocking the restricted sites and disable applications, Leopard also keeps a log of the parental-control features that were overridden or violated.
There are also smaller but very helpful enhancements in some of the Mac OS X features such as the “smart folders” which allows you to locate easily not only your top-rated songs or most recently played videos but also other stored data using Apple’s Finder, Mail Client, iPhoto, and other applications using the Spotlight desktop search feature. Other features include the “Back to My Mac” feature which allows user to remotely access the desktop and stored files even when it is located behind a firewall. You can also attach your Mac to a compatible television set and use it to play DVDs. You can also make notes and to-do lists and save them in your computer without having to worry opening them up since you can actually preview a document before you open it or to drag your files across multiple computers.
